Hi Lill - yes, I do this also. If I'm stuck, I'll work on something else. It's like we have to trick our brains into getting something accomplished, and then we get freed up. Sometimes I work on long manuscripts during the winter, and short ones during the busy summer, when I'd rather be outside. We all find our own rhythms as writers - and that's a good thing.

Rejection is definitely part of the ride. Being rejected also means we have risked putting our work out there. If we don't do that, then we won't be rejected, but we also won't be published.

(No cleaning the attic for me this weekend--or the basement! "Just" a weekend at home.)

That's sad. Sharpie actually can be removed so that is not such a deterrent to theft. They can be pawned or taken to second-hand game and video places and exchanged for cash. Individuals can fund their drug habits that way. My younger daughter's new sister-in-law does that.

Hello Lill -- I just saw your comment about your cat and I was so sorry to read that. My family used to collect cats that had been dumped and a few of them had been hit by cars and abandoned. It saddens me so much that people can't be kinder to animals.

Last night, one man came to help my daughters with the injured cat they found; we still have to return the blanket he gave us to wrap her in. He stood a respectable distance from them until we came and took them and the cat home.

These are good thoughts. For something that reads very much like prose poems to me, pick up Naomi Shihab Nye's Honeybee, which came out last year. It's got lots of actual poems in it (and they are brilliant), and lots of compact, gem-like short short stories that read an awful lot like poetry (lots of use of poetic devices and language, but it sure looks like prose). I (and several other panelists for the CYBILS) considered many of them to be prose poems. Whether we are correct or not is another thing.

I just finished reading a book in "verse" told in multiple viewpoints. It was straight prose -- -with line breaks --- and not even ones that had any artistic literary purpose. It was just broken up to "look" like poetry.
